Summer Holidays Sailing at Tankerton Bay

Tankerton Bay’s own RYA Training Centre has been a hive of activity over the summer break.

6 adults and 15 children have come along to our various courses in August. We have battled high winds and 3-foot waves (which the youngsters seemed to love swimming in) and we have had days of sunshine and perfect training winds - generally a nice long-shore force 2 to 3. We have introduced families and individuals to sailing from age 8 to 60 plus, running Stage 1 Youth and Level 1 Adult courses as well as an afternoon where people simply 'had a go’ at sailing. Many of these candidates have now joined as new members. We had a fabulous turn out of 8 of our new young local sailors for the Cadet Series; thanks to everyone who loaned their boats.

Our 3 new club Fusion dinghies have already proved a hit with our adult sailors, giving them a more comfortable and roomy ride …. just before they fall in! And all along the way our wonderful volunteer ‘beach hand’ members have turned out to make tea, rig boats, sail with nervous souls, catch boats in the shallows, lug the wonderful sailing ‘simulator’ in and out of the store, man the power boat, hang up wet gear, share Barry’s lovely sandwiches, mop floors and generally smile and encourage. So many trainees have said to me, ‘What a lovely friendly club we are.’

I can only agree - great job Tankerton Bay SC!
