Tankerton Bay Sailing Club - Kent

Alex Holliday Trust 2019 - Year 2

This is the second year of the Alex Holliday Trust, where one pupil from year 9 at Queen Elizabeth Grammar School, is selected for a sailing scholarship at the club. This is in memory of Alex, a student of Queen Elizabeth Grammar School and a keen member of our Sailing Club, who suddenly and tragically passed away whilst on a school trip to Cuba.

So each year, the chosen cadet will get a full honorary membership until the end of the year, training to RYA Level 1 in Dinghy Sailing, use of a club boat & suitable equipment, use of club facilities on sailing days, entry into Bart’s Bash and support throughout.

The second pupil to be selected is Maisie Billings. This month Maisie successfully completed the RYA level 1 course at the club with flying colours - helped by a couple of last years star cadets, Alfie and Ethan. Maise is a natural according to Helen North - our RYA Chief Instructor - and has already taken to the water again, competing last weekend in the first races of the Novice and Cadet series in winds that touched 30mph - brave indeed!  Maisie will continue to hone her skills with the aim of competing in "Barts Bash - the biggest sailing race in the world" in September.  We wish her luck in the big race and we are delighted that we can continue to honour Alex in such a positive way.

Maisie joins a growing band of cadets, led by Hannah, Alfie and Ethan, and she will, I'm sure, be a fantastic asset to the club this year as we continue to grow the number of younger people sailing.
